Painted backgrounds

I wanted to share my process for using painted backgrounds. I've done this for a few projects this year, here, here (sorry you'll have to scroll down), and a couple here...it's been a real treat, and it's real easy. My goal is to do traditional 2D animated shorts using Photoshop. I'm looking into software to compress the amount of images it would take, or that would keep the background static for x number of frames. Anyway, that's all in the (hopefully near) future, but that's where I want to go with this. On to it... I've been painting the backgrounds with acrylic and gauche...these get sketched out first so I can position the characters (which can always be moved around later)... c2 gagragcb Then, I ink the characters...if I'm doing a bunch, I do them all on the same sheet of tracing paper, so it's easy to pull them... Seperate the line art, and color on a seperate layer. cwasherpainter copy cwasherpainterc copy Merge layers and paste them on the background, simple as that. cgagragc
